About
Dan O’Brien is a lifelong resident of Osgoode Township who holds a wide array of experience in farming (small scale to large operations), entrepreneurship and business management, and working for not for profit boards and committees.

Early Years
Dan grew up on a mixed use farm, spending his days in a two-room schoolhouse near Enniskerry and his weekends and evenings learning the craft of farming, and learning the family business of school bus transportation. Over time he took over, operated, and built up the school bus business, expanding it from just 14 vehicles to over 120, where he prioritized developing a productive relationship between employees and management. He also held a Director position with the Ontario School Bus Operators’ Association for six years.
Business of Farming

Dan owned and operated two separate beef cattle farms, marketed purebred stock around the world including Brazil, Mexico, China, and the US, as well as across Canada, and was a preferred beef vendor to local restaurants and food service establishments. Dan also developed a loyal customer base among local Ottawa residents who purchased directly from him at the Ottawa Farmers Market, where he served as Director. Other positions Dan held over the years include those of director of cattle associations locally, provincially and nationally, as well as Director of Two Valley Feeder Finance Corporation.
Recent Work
Presently, Dan serves as President of the Township of Osgoode Non-Profit Housing Corporation and for Metcalfe Stanley Non-Profit Apartments Corporation, which consists of 24 rent to income family units and over eighty seniors' apartments. Through this work Dan has strengthened his ability to recognize the strengths each individual brings to the table and works to cultivate these strengths to benefit the respective committees, corporations, and residents. Recognizing that negotiation is key, he is able to review information and data objectively, working toward the best solution that offers the best possible service to residents of Osgoode.
Platform
A note from Dan:
I recognize that the municipal services provided to the residents of Osgoode are extremely important and I am prepared to ensure that these services continue to be readily available and affordable with quick turnaround times. I will represent the residents of Osgoode to the best of my ability with an open, accessible, transparent Ward Office and by bringing the concerns and suggestions of the community to Committee and Council.

Affordable Housing
Having a good understanding of the needs for more affordable housing in our respective communities, I would work toward easing restrictions and delays for construction approvals and look into various types of residential options including infill housing.
Homecare
I am interested in working with the municipality and the province, to support and further develop a more robust homecare system, enabling our local seniors to remain in their own homes for as long as they are able. Enhancing our homecare services will offer savings to our seniors, and to the healthcare system as a whole.
Local Farms of All Sizes
Farms feed communities and play a critical role in our community, I want to share my passion and enthusiasm for agriculture and help to grow local farming operations whether they be on the larger end of the scale or the smaller micro farms that younger entrepreneurs are working to develop.
Farmland Preservation
I intend to focus on the preservation of farmland, leaving farmland to remain as farmland! It is especially troubling to see prime grade “A” farmland being developed for housing. There is enough land unsuitable for agriculture farming for one reason or another that could be alternatively developed.
Natural Gas Pipelines
I intend to promote the installation of natural gas pipelines to benefit all of the Osgoode Ward residents, and support the availability of natural gas to the majority of all rural Ottawa residents.
Fairness
I will ensure that the residents of Osgoode are treated fairly when it comes to their contribution to the cost of public transit including the construction of light rail, and the costs of stormwater levies, ensuring fees remain fair and equitable for our rural residents.
Osgoode Youth Community
Our local youth community needs access to affordable recreation options. I will investigate the high cost of sports facilities and field rentals and I will support the Osgoode Youth Association.
Waste Disposal
We need to solve the issue of garbage soon or it will cost us all, financially and environmentally. My own personal experience indicates the positive effects that the green bin program has on reducing garbage going to our landfills. I would like to study the real benefits to the environment including tracking the final destination of our recycled items.
Ambulance Wait Times
Ambulances are reaching level zero far too often. A consensus should be a sure thing with the new council to improve this situation and make sure that level zero is a thing of the past never to be repeated.
